Rubber Duck - Karen Hsaio

Rubber Duck - Karen Hsaio
Karen Hsiao uses a simple object, the rubber duck, and a single location, the bathtub, to examine and expose various stages of the human life cycle. From birth to death, through good times and bad, in sickness and in health, the human condition is a series of thematic episodes that Karen Hsiao presents as simple yet shocking portraits of unusual bathing beauties who represent our inner selves. Children, monsters, lovers, fighters, victims, and caregivers are all represented by charismatic models (some famous fetish models) in the tub with their rubber ducks. Dirty, insightful fun. Foreword by Gary Basemen.
Karen is a self taught Fine Art photographer who uses intense subject matters in an unconventional way. Primarily a figurative painter in her early years, Hsiao has since explored the figure and its space through various mediums, creating pieces that are both tactile and intuitive. Photography was a natural extension of that process which Hsiao has sought to perfect. Her work has captured the attention of many, having been shown in galleries both nationwide and abroad. She graduated from Art Center College of Design with a BFA.
